The Quartet-festival is supported by the Culture 2007-13 program of the European Commission. The key-words of the european application were: dialogue of cultures, exchange, cooperation and travelling of cultural products and workers. Along these premises the main goal of Quartet/European visions, that we establish a living dialogue between the 4 cultures, the 4 theatres, the 4 cities, the artists and the audience, the experts and the politicians. We shall get to know the differences and similarities of each other, we shall learn from each other!

During the 2 years of Quartet the 4 theatres are working on an experimental, common production. During the 4 festival-sessions, and in 1-1 week in the summer of 2009 and 2010, serbian, czech, hungarian and french actors, dramaturgs, directors meet to look for theatrical answers to the question: is it possible to make theatre without a common spoken language? The result of the rehearsals will be presented on the BITEF international theatre festival of Belgrade in September 2010. – but during every Quartet festival-edition the audience can visit an open rehearsal of the project.

In the centre of the Quartet – European Visions Festival, besides all of its colours, are the performances of the 4 partner theatres. 4 European theatres put their treasures together. In dialogue and supplementing each other. The four performances are four pearls. There is really something tipical Serb, Czeck, Hungarian and French in the shows. The French clothe Tarantino in the red colour of Artaud’s cruel theatre. By the Czecks slavic folk-poetry and the humour of Hrabal embraces Kafka. The Serbs are exploding with the power of the Balkan – blood, tears, heart, extasy. Our Alcoholics occupy the audience-room with the „huge hungarian soul”. And something is common in every performance: though we do not understand the languages, we understand each other. We do not need translation to understand – the homo ludens likes playing everywhere in the world.
